March, 2010
Dear Eagle Family,
As we wind down the winter season, we are looking forward to potentially hosting the Big Sky Women’s Basketball Tournament for the first time ever! As of this writing, our women’s program will definitely finish in at least a tie for the Conference title but we still have some work to do to win it outright (either a Sacramento State loss in one of their final two games or an Eagle win over Portland State does the trick).
If we are fortunate enough to host, it will be our second such tournament this academic year as our volleyball team hosted their four team event in November. The basketball tournament, meanwhile, will be a six team event starting on March 11 and concluding with the championship game on March 13 – the top two seeds receive a bye in the first round with the semis on March 12 – we are assured of a top two seed and a bye.
I mentioned last letter that if you have not come out to see the ladies play, it is never too late to hop on the bandwagon.
EAA FUND DRIVE – OPERATION IK PART II
We have kicked off the renewal phase of this year’s EAA Fund Drive which we are dubbing - Operation 1K. We will then start a six week campaign (on March 15) to solicit new members into EAA culminating at this year’s Killin on April 24. Thank you to everyone who faithfully supports the EAA – it is tremendously appreciated especially during these challenging economic times (won’t we all be excited when we do not use that phrase again).
KILLIN WEEKEND
This year’s event will again be run in partnership with the Michael Roos Foundation and will be hosted by ESPN radio talk show host and EWU alum Colin Cowherd. Tickets are $75.00 per person or a table of eight is $500.00.
To learn more about the EAA Fund Drive, Killin or anything related to Eagle Athletics, log onto www.goeags.com – it is a great source of information and our folks in media relations and marketing do a fantastic job of updating it.
CONGRATULATIONS
To Glen Dean who was named Big Sky Newcomer of the Year – very well deserved! Below is Dave Cook’s release on Glen’s selection. With Glen leading the way next year, we are looking forward to our men’s program having the type of ascension that our soccer and women’s basketball programs have been able to achieve this year.
