June, 2010
Dear Eagle Family,
Amazingly, our athletic year has come to a close – time does fly. Congratulations to the 12 members of our track and field team who participated in the West Regionals in Austin, Texas. Although we had hoped for a qualifier or two for nationals, we could not be more proud of their efforts representing Eastern.
EeeeWooos RECAP
Our 2nd Annual year end extravaganza was just outstanding. Major kudos to staff members Davin Perry and Kyle Hoob, who worked tirelessly to make this event simply tremendous.

CONGRATULATIONS…
To Head Coach, Wendy Schuller and husband Mark who welcomed Brandon Maximus to the Schuller clan and Eagle family on June 3rd.
CONGRATULATIONS II….
To Whitney Leavitt and Flavio Malagutti who were named May’s scholar-athletes of the month by our department…
Whitney (Benton City, Wash.), a freshman on our track and field team, carries a 3.79 GPA and was a member of our Big Sky 4x100 relay team while Flavio (Rio Clara, Brazil), also a freshman, was a solid 9-9 in singles play and carries a 3.87 GPA. Flavio will have an interesting and exciting summer this year as he was selected to intern at the Harvard Tennis Academy in Cambridge, Mass.
NCAA DIVISION I CROSS COUNTRY
Last month, I mentioned that we in partnership with the Spokane Regional Sports Commission submitted a bid to host the NCAA D-I Cross Country Championships for 2011, 2012 and 2013. We had been named a finalist and were awaiting word as to whether we may receive the championship…we did hear back and unfortunately we were not selected. But the NCAA Committee did state how much they liked our bid and hoped that we would again bid when it came up in a couple of years…thanks to Coach Zeller on our staff and Chris Frye of the SRSC for all of their hard work on the bid.
RED TURF UPDATE
Thank you to both Eastern’s Board of Trustees and EWU’s Foundation Board for approving the synthetic turf project. The approval was contingent upon the necessary dollars in place to break ground and as I write this everything appears to be very optimistic. By July’s letter, let’s hope that we will have broken ground!!!
Until next month - Best Wishes and Go Eagles!!!
