| Bill Chaves was named as Eastern Washington University's Athletic Director on August 17, 2007. Chaves becomes Eastern's 13th athletics director in the last 40 years, including the ninth since Eastern became a member of NCAA Division I in the 1983-84 school year and a member of the Big Sky Conference in 1987-88. |
July 2011 Dear Eagle Family, I have tended to take a “July hiatus” but could not resist mentioning a couple of items since the June letter. The months of June and July normally mean summer camps. I would like to congratulate our coaching staffs in doing a tremendous job in attracting campers this year. Between football (approximately 1400) and men’s basketball (over 800) alone, there will be over 2,000 kids on Eastern’s campus participating in their instructional camps. The work done by our coaches in this area is not only vital to the University, but also to the entire Cheney community, as many people from out of town come and patronize our local businesses. In addition and most importantly, these campers might be future Eagle students! On June 30th, I was able to attend the annual EAA membership meeting. It was great seeing a number of our most loyal supporters discussing the EAA and how the organization may better serve the University and our student-athletes. We cannot thank everyone enough that supports us through your generous time and donations. MARK YOUR CALENDAR – Our annual Ron Raver Golf Tournament – sponsored by Harvest Foods – is slated for August 3rd at both Liberty Lake and Meadowood Golf Courses.
